Germantown Friends School
Sustainable Urban Science Center
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
The new Science Center more than doubles the science classroom space, including classrooms for biology, chemistry and physics. The building is meant to be as much a part of the GFS science curriculum as its textbooks. The photovoltaics on the roof, rain cisterns in the courtyard and geothermal wells are monitored on a trio of flat screens displaying real-time data. The building achieved a LEED® Gold Certification.
