Central Piedmont Community College

Giles Science Building Renovation

This project involved the complete interior renovation of four floors of a 5-story science building that was built in 1997. The project displaced, repurposed, relocated and enlarged existing classrooms, offices, and laboratories to accommodate 154 more biology and chemistry laboratory stations— a critical need of the college. Laboratories include biology, microbiology, physiology, botany/zoology, physics, and general flex labs. Other project highlights include:

  • New laboratory exhaust fans in chemistry labs
  • Existing offices on second floor converted into teaching labs
  • Roof replacement and new sprinkler system throughout building
  • Chemical storage room relocated from the fourth floor to the basement

“HERA brought sophisticated and specialized expertise to the redesign and renovation to the Giles Science Building project at Central Piedmont Community College. I found their contributions to be particularly helpful to our faculty as they brought a set of contemporary examples for how top institutions are utilizing and teaching within their science labs
