The Georgia Department of Transportation operates seven material testing labs around the state, as well 30 office areas. GDoT hired HERA to review their existing concept plans for the materials and testing laboratories and update them for long-term planning decisions.
HERA programmed the spaces and providing updated concept plans for all seven testing facilities. Each location is planned for flexibility and will include asphalt laboratories (liquid and dry) and a soil and aggregate laboratory which houses sieve rooms, a hot room and moisture room and soundness room. Additional laboratory spaces include outdoor and enclosed receiving/loading areas, material storage and waste collection rooms. Associated administrative spaces for laboratory supervisors, technicians, contractors and office administration has also been updated.
Future services would include schematic design through construction administration.
