Regional Hospital Clinical Laboratory Fit-Up

HERA’s involvement as clinical laboratory fit-up consultant began during the Criteria Design Phase. HERA’s work focused on the clinical laboratory services area. HERA met with the lab users to review current workload and specimen testing procedures and equipment requirements to estimate growth and calculate current and future lab space needs and recommend LEAN process improvements. HERA’s expertise with industry standards and knowledge of good lab practices helped develop plans that provided efficient, functional adjacencies and optimized laboratory layouts, including casework options.

The laboratory services area includes labs for clinical chemistry, hematology, microbiology, histology/cytology, phlebotomy, blood bank, and training as well as space for specimen accessioning, offices and administrative support.

MGMC engaged a medical equipment consultant to assist in selection of equipment for various parts of the new hospital. HERA laboratory planners collaborated with the medical equipment consultant as required where responsibilities overlapped to provide the best overall solution for procurement of clinical laboratory equipment.

The LEED Gold certified project was designed and constructed following the principles of Integrated Project Delivery to maximize value. HERA provided information that maximized the ability of the project team to meet MGMC’s functional and budgetary needs in the least amount of construction time possible.
