Mount Carmel West

Transformation Core Lab

HERA assisted the hospital in the relocation of the existing Mount Carmel West Core Lab, outpatient service line and Mount Carmel East Histology to a newly purchased warehouse. The existing food processing facility was renovated into lab space, including a new state-of-the-art automated analytical equipment line.

Project goals included adding natural light into the laboratories, preserving space for future unrelated Mount Carmel programs and keeping the administration offices in the core lab. Space was programmed to accommodate growth projections and offer redundancy for critical operations.

The facility includes labs for general chem/hematology/urinalysis, microbiology (including a BSL-3 suite) histology, as well as offices and support space.

The core lab transformation is a piece of the overall three-hospital (Mount Carmel West, Mount Carmel East and Mount Carmel Grove City) expansion and modernization to meet the changing healthcare needs of the communities of central Ohio.
