The $1.27 billion Parkland Hospital project, a new 64-acre healthcare campus, replaces the existing 56-year-old Parkland Memorial Hospital. The healthcare campus includes an 862-bed hospital, outpatient center, parking, central utility plant and logistics building totaling 2.5 million square feet.
The functional and space program for the hospital clinical laboratory features a Rapid Response lab within the hospital and the main laboratory on the upper floors of the new Logistics Building. The labs feature both automation and stand-alone instrumentation for chemistry, toxicology, hematology, blood gas, and urinalysis; a bone marrow and special coagulation lab; a flow cytometry lab; an immunology lab; and a microbiology lab.
The new hospital promotes excellence in clinical care, teaching, and research in a technologically advanced and easily accessible environment. The hospital and attached women and infant’s specialty hospital incorporates evidenced-based design and achieved LEED Gold certification.
The campus is located within the Dallas Southwestern Medical District and serves as a teaching hospital for the University of Texas Southwestern (UTSW) School of Medicine.
