Triton College

Health and Science Building Renovation

This renovation of the former Technology Building transforms the facility into a Health and Science Academic Center. The renovated building houses educational programs such as nursing, surgical technology, diagnostic medical sonography, nuclear medicine, and ophthalmology, as well as provides classrooms for a variety of basic science courses (biology, chemistry, anatomy/physiology). An immersion environment/simulation labs replicates a hospital environment. Other features include a relaxed seating area for students and a computer commons area with WiFi capability.

Renovated with sustainability in mind, the project is LEED Silver certified. The building incorporates many sustainable concepts such as an efficient, low-energy consumption mechanical system; a cistern to collect roof water that is reused in washrooms; and a green roof with granite chips that reflect the sun back into the atmosphere, thus decreasing the wear and tear on the building. Many of the green features help cut down on the cost of operating and maintaining the building.
