Texas A&M University - Galveston
Ocean and Coastal Studies Building
Galveston, Texas

The LEED Gold certified Ocean and Coastal Studies Building houses the university’s marine biology and marine sciences programs, including ecology, comparative physiology, and environmental theory and policy. In addition to teaching, the new building is also defined by six distinct marine science research cores.  The cores define adjacencies in terms of lab services and equipment including shared access to dive lockers, instrumentation, policy meeting rooms, and animal holding facilities. TAMUG engaged HERA prior to selection of the project architect to develop a building program through a consensus-driven process.  The new science building was defined in terms of the macro-level facility requirements, quality expectations, concepts of organization, likely construction costs.
